WHAT INSPIRES ME

My Graduate Collection entitled "Father's Trade" draws inspiration from my father's cultural heritage, emerging as topographical details, through the fur and leather garments he and my mother sold in their retail store in the 80s.

Following my pre-collection it developed on the story of what it means to be "British" after being exiled from Kenya for being Indian, exploring ethnic diaspora in the UK, where South Asian migrants faced discrimination from Enoch Powell supporters, after working for the British Army.

This personal story is executed through creating garments and accessories that featured sustainable leather and faux fur appliqué, laser cut acrylic mirror hand stitched onto leather with raw denim thread and jacquard knitted sweaters made from 100% cotton Burberry dead-stock yarn, utilising digital fashion as a part of my sustainable design process.
